AUTO-L - Electronic Discussion Forum

AUTO-L, which has been in operation since February 1997, aims to promote dialogue and exchange among language teachers and researchers involved in learner autonomy, self-directed learning, learning strategies, learner development, learner independence, learner training and self-access. From time to time, the list moderators (Terry Lamb and Phil Benson) also invite guest moderators to provide background information and insights on topics related to the promotion of learner autonomy.

The forum is moderated by Terry Lamb and Phil Benson and the list is maintained by Anita Wenden. Anyone wishing to subscribe should send a message to Anita at the following address: WLDYC@CUNYVM.CUNY.EDU

LAPI - Learner Autonomy Project Inventory

LAPI (Learner Autonomy Project Inventory) is a list of research projects related to learner autonomy. The LAPI is intended to meet the need for information about what is going on in the field of learner autonomy, as well as to encourage exchange among those who are working in the field. The LAPI site allows you to submit details of your project and to search for projects on particular aspects of learner autonomy. The site is maintained by Hayo Reinders. Check it out: http://www.hayo.nl/lapi/

Newsletter

The first AILA SC newsletter was produced by Anita Wenden in 1994. Since then a newsletter has been produced each year. For back issues of the newsletter click here.

As the SC has no funds to cover the production or distribution of the newsletter, it is distributed electronically to most members, either as an attachment or by directing them to the website to read and download a copy.

Symposium

At each AILA Congress (once every three years) since its formation in 1993, the Scientific Commission has organised a symposium on learner autonomy. The symposium is usually scheduled to last for a whole day at the Congress, with participation advertised widely to attract the largest possible audience. The symposium organisers have sought at different times to showcase current research in learner autonomy, to attract newcomers and to debate critical issues of definition and theory.
