Young Executive Training (YET): English Communication Skills program (18 to 22 July, 2011)

Thirty-three students, both undergrads and postgrads from HKUST, as well as visiting students from Mainland China and Taiwan, participated in this program to sharpen their essential workplace communication skills including socializing, negotiation, and presentation skills, while distinguished practitioners, entrepreneurs, and HKUST alumni shared their experience on their secrets to success in life. The English Language Buddy Scheme (ELBS) Award Presentation and Closing Ceremony

The ELBS Award Presentation and Closing Ceremony was held on Thursday, 5 May 2011 in Room 2407 from 6:30pm To 8:00pm. During the event, the ELBS participants shared their experiences on the 12-week English program, the activities they enjoyed, the friendships they have established and the very meaning of this program to them.

Intercultural Workshop

ELBS hosted a workshop on the intricacies of Intercultural Communication on Thursday, 14 April 2011. Students engaged in an interactive role-play, and received valuable insights into the habits and behaviors that can cause problems between cultures. The Workshop also addressed differences in cultural values and possible ways to overcome miscommunication between friends and colleagues.

Wine & Dine: Food Talk

The English Language Buddy Scheme hosted the workshop 'Wine & Dine: Food Talk' on Thursday, 7 April 2011, from 6:00 to 8:30pm. Participants and Buddies had a fantastic time learning the different manners, traditions, and place settings.
