In line with general University guidelines, The Language Center's official minimum attendance requirement for all LANG non-elective courses is 80% (inclusive of the Add/Drop period).
- If a student misses 6 or more classes in each semester, then she/he will fail the course and will have to retake the whole course (i.e. both semesters) the following year.
- Warnings:
- After missing 3 classes (in total
i.e. not consecutive), a warning letter will be sent to
the student and copied to the department.
- After missing 6 lessons, the
student fails. A letter will be sent to the student and
the department and ARR will be notified.
- Permission of leave will be given
in special cases of prolonged leave taken by students for
such reasons as serious illness or injuries on production
of documentary evidence (i.e. a doctor's note), and these
absences will not be counted.
- Policy regarding late arrivals and early departures (tardiness):
- A student arriving ten minutes late for class or leaving early without permission will be given a "tardy" mark.
- Three "tardies" will result in a reduction of the student's participation mark. If six or more tardies are accumulated over a semester, the student will receive 0 mark for participation.
