English Communication for Science Students I/II LANG 2028/2029

Course Description

This is a one-semester course for second-year Science students. There are six 14-week modules. Students are required to choose one module from the list below:

***All Lang 2028 modules offered in the Fall semester, except for "Language Interplay I", are offered again as Lang 2029 modules in the Spring semester. The module "Teach It" is only offered in the Spring semester.***
PLEASE NOTE: YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO TAKE THE SAME MODULE IN LANG 2028 AND LANG 2029.

  • building up confidence in speaking in public
  • improving vocabulary, listening, writing and speaking abilities using new online tools
  • expressing ideas proficiently and idiomatically in spoken English
  • acquiring certain qualities looked for across subject areas, e.g. criticl and creative thinking, analytical ability, sense of humour and appreciation
  • develop the wide range of discussing skills
  • examining both written and spoken errors typically made by Chinese speakers
