Course Description


LANG 3049 is a one-year course for third-year Engineering students. The course is divided into two parts.

LANG 3049(1)

Students need to buy the course book "English for Engineering Students III".

LANG 3049(1) is offered in Fall Semester and focuses on technical writing and presentations. The focus of the course is on:

  • Logical development of ideas in writing and speaking

  • Targeting writing and presentations to a specific audience

  • Developing an appropriate written style

  • Creating and delivering effective poster presentations

  • identify the needs and concerns of a general audience of a technical project.
  • select, summarise and synthesise information from Final Year Project materials to produce a coherent and accurate presentation and report.

  • use appropriate body language, visual aids and delivery techniques to give a fluent presentation.
  • support your arguments and justify claims when answering questions about a technical project.
Ethical Standards
  • synthesise published materials with your own ideas in a literature review for a technical report, avoiding plagiarism.
