Attendance Requirements

In line with the general university guidelines, the Language Center's official minimum attendance requirement for all LANG courses is 80%.

If a student misses six or more classes during the whole course, then she/he will fail the course. Note that attendance is recorded from the date of a student's enrolment on the course; absences during the add/drop period are included in the attendance record once enrolment is confirmed.

Incremental warnings:

After missing three classes (in total ie not consecutive), a warning letter will be sent to the student.

After missing five classes, a second warning letter will be sent to the student and copied to the department.

After missing six classes, the student fails. A final letter will be sent to the student, the department and ARR will be notified.

University guidelines regarding punctuality also apply.

Permission of leave will be given in special cases of prolonged leave taken by students for such reasons as serious illness or injuries on production of documentary evidence (ie a doctor's note), and these absences will not be counted.
