SELECTING MATERIALS FOR JAPANESE PRONUNCIATION
JP2

The aim of this leaflet

The aim of this leaflet is to introduce to you materials on Japanese pronunciation available in the Language Commons and to suggest ways to choose materials.

Materials in the SAC

  • Multi-Media Materials
The materials on Pronunciation in the SAC include various audiotapes attached to coursebooks and CD-ROMs. Another type of materials you may consider is Japanese learning websites.
  • Music CDs
There is a good collection of music CDs, which you can use to confirm your knowledge by checking the lyrics of songs of your choice after learning pronunciation.
  • Other materials
An important part of pronunciation practice is to listen. You can use the Chinese-Japanese, Japanese-Chinese CD-ROM dictionary at the SAC and listen to the recorded sound of Japanese words.

Note: See the next page to see which pronunciation areas are covered in these materials

Spoken materials that have Japanese transcript

  1. Lyrics of music CDs at SAC (lyric file available near the cassette tape recorder)
  2. Part of transcript of Japanese news available at http://www.nhk.or.jp/ (choose any title of NHK news with video file)
  3. Whole transcript for Japanese stories available at
    http://www.so-net.ne.jp/storygate/join.html (click ˇ§osusume sakuhinˇ¨)
