Resources

The Language Commons can be used as a resource centre and a practice area. It offers a range of facilities and materials to cater for individual needs, preferences and learning styles. You are free to use any of the resources on offer and practise your language learning within our comfortable surroundings.


Facilities

The Language Commons provides the facilities you need to help you succeed in your language learning.  Here are some hints on how you could make good use of its various facilities:

  1. Reception Desk (Rm. 3018) - borrow one of the many board games we have and play with your friends while improving your vocabulary;
  2. Orientation area (Rm. 3018) - join a Chit-chat Session to improve English speaking fluency and make friends across cultures and disciplines;
  3. Advice Desk (Rm. 3018) & Listening Room 3 (Rm. 3026A) - make an appointment with a Language Advisor to discuss your concerns about your writing and speaking;
  4. Multimedia Area (Rm. 3018) - watch a popular TV drama or the latest movie on big screens to practise your listening skills
  5. Seminar Rooms (Rms. 3018 & 3019) - book a seminar room and bring along your teammates to rehearse for your group presentations;
  6. Theater (Rm. 3019) - join the movie-watching and discussion activity "Cinematopia" at the Theater;
  7. Computer stations (Rms. 3018 & 3019) - access our language learning software and online resources to improve various language skills
  8. Sofas & Terrace (Rms. 3018 & 3019) - relax and pamper yourself with a novel in the tranquil and cozy setting of the Language Commons.
Materials
The Language Commons provides materials on a range of different languages:

All the materials apart from books for extensive reading (novels, audiobooks etc) are for use within the Language Commons only.  To make materials easy to find, they are divided into the following types (skills or categories):
