When I got to Taiwan we were living because it reminded me of something else we lived in the Taipei hostel right, one of these hostels in every room. in the hostel there were usually as I remember there were about 8 beds in every room. I mean you’ve been in a dormitory before just like a regular dormitory, and it was kind this is a really, it’s a bit funny but its really sad too you know because I was there the day this woman arrived from Scotland and she was about 70 years old and she comes through and a lot of the time if the owner wasn’t around I would handle people as they came into the hostel so I was sitting there and this old woman comes in and asked for a bed so I got a bed and the very first question she asked me was “where can I get a drink?” now little did I realize at that time what this really meant. One of the other people that was staying in her room was a friend of mine called Alan and Alan always had a bottle of whisky that he kept under his bed and in the hostel it was okay nobody nicked his stole his whiskey or anything but after this woman had been there people started calling her the dragon lady which you’ll see for obvious reasons umm, Alan comes home from work one night and the whisky’s gone nobody says anything and the next morning this lady starts asking around about whose whisky she took. She just took the whisky from under his bed and it was no problem. He said “it was mine” and she went out and brought him another bottle and this started happening every day she’d buy him a new bottle of whisky and then she’d take it that night and drink the whole thing and as it went on she started to tell us more of her story and she’d come to Taiwan to die that’s what she said she’d come her to die, that her husband had died the year before and she said that there wasn’t much more in life and she had just come here to die so too us I looked like she was slowly drinking herself to death but things started to get really bad because as she started drinking more and more she would lie in her bed and most nights she would go to the bathroom in her bed she’d pee herself in bed so this smell started to get worse and worse and this is in and there’s 8 other, there’s 7 will total 8 people in the room.[men and women together?] men and women together so people started to complain more to Antoine, he was the guy who owned it the hostel and the smell and it was summer time so the smell was and every morning she was peeing in the bed. Antoine was always telling talking to us about how we could get rid of her because he just has to get her out of the hostel right? And no one ever wanted to do anything I mean it’s a 70 year old woman so finally it got to the point where one morning the other people were just getting up and the smell was really bad because during the night she’d shat herself she’d crapped in the bed and when she got up in the morning she just picked up the sheet and kind of wiped herself and tossed everything back on the bed. So you can imagine what the smell was like [I cant really, I’ve never had that experience] when someone’s crapped their bed with seven people in the room in the middle of summer, pure evil, so finally Antoine he called this meeting with what am I going to do with her and she’d been talking all this time how she wanted to go down to ‘Kaohsiung’, no idea why. So Antoine got some money together and called Alan over and decided that he was going to put her in a taxi and send her to ‘Kaohsiung’ but on the morning that he wanted to do this to get her out of the hostel she wouldn’t get out of bed so Alan took his whisky and said “I’ll give you a drink” and she goes okay give me a drink he goes no “I will only give you a drink if you put your clothes on. So she put her clothes on and he gave her one drink and that was how he got her out to the taxi he’d get her into one room and he’s give her a drink and she’d have a drink but she’d stop there and then he got her outside and he gave her another drink and finally he put her into the taxi and he gave her the bottle and Antoine gave the taxi driver something like $3000 to drive her from the north of Taiwan down to the south of Taiwan and that was the last anybody saw of her.
