Staff:

  To build solidarity and team spirit.

  To facilitate social interaction.
  To help develop support networks and friendships.
  To provide settings for relaxation and revitalisation.
  To provide venues for the sharing of interests and hobbies.

Students:

  To promote the learning of languages in the University.
  To inculcate the spirit to strive for good language use in both academic and non-academic contexts.
  To provide opportunities for natural and sensitive use of languages through participation in meaningful activities.
  To foster in the University community a quality culture in the use of language, in terms of both accuracy and appropriateness.

Staff and Students:

Strategies

  To initiate and organise activities which are beneficial to staff members”¦ mental and physical health.
  To organise and provide support and help in the form of an informal ”„buddy system”¦ for new colleagues to achieve a smooth and successful assimilation into the organisation.
  To initiate and organise activities which promote students”¦ interests in learning languages.
  To liaise with student societies and provide advice and assistance for language-related activities.
  To provide coaching for students representing the University in open competitions.
